Potential housing sites in Norton St Philip 2029-2045 – Consultation Event

Published: 16 March 2026

Norton St Philip Parish Council has appointed Context Planning Ltd to undertake an independent review of potential housing sites within the Parish. This work is being undertaken in response to the emerging Local Plan being prepared by Somerset Council. The sites being considered are those that have been put forward by landowners to Somerset Council for consideration for inclusion in the Local Plan.

Within the emerging Local Plan, Somerset Council may require villages such as Norton St Philip to accommodate additional housing through site allocations. To help inform the Local Plan process, the Parish Council wishes to submit a report to Somerset Council identifying the Parish’s preferred sites, together with clear justification for that position.

An important part of this work is to gather feedback from the local community. On behalf of the Parish Council, we would therefore like to understand the views of local residents on which sites they feel may be appropriate for future housing development. The landowners/their agents have also been contacted.

A public consultation event will be held on Wednesday 1 April 2026 between 4pm and 7pm at the Palairet Hall, Norton St Philip

At the event you will be able to:
> View information about the sites that have been promoted for development
> See the key opportunities and constraints that have been identified through Context Planning’s
initial assessment
> Ask questions about the process and share your views.

Your feedback will help inform our final report and ensure that local views are properly reflected when engaging with Somerset Council.

Following the consultation event we will be conducting a survey which will seek your views on the suitability of the individual sites. This will primarily be online, but paper copies will be available on request.
Details of the survey will be circulated on a further flyer and also published on the Norton St Philip Parish Council website.
We very much hope residents attend, share their views and complete the survey.
